The Honorable Charlie Crist
Governor of The State of Florida
The Capitol
Tallahassee, Florida

Dear Governor Crist:

The Island of Key Largo Federation of Homeowner Associations, Inc. (IKLFHA) welcomes you as our new Governor. The Key West Citizen reported “Crist wants government to communicate in plain language” It is refreshing, that you intend to work towards good communication in state government and have signed the executive order to implement it. We also agree it is important.

Our organization is dedicated to promote the general welfare and enhance the quality of life of the island community of Key Largo, Monroe County, Florida by identifying and addressing the issues and matters of concern through a Federation of Homeowner Associations.

Our deepest concerns just to name a few:
1) THE HOMEOWNER INSURANCE CRISES IN FLORIDA: especially the unfair Monroe County rates. We support the F.I.R.M. Organization in their efforts in Tallahassee.
2) HURRICANE EVACUATION: The 18.1 hour Hurricane Evacuation untruthful time line as indicated in a report from a Monroe County Official. Our concern is about the welfare, safety, and lives of our citizens in the entire Keys based on this report to the Governor and Cabinet December 5, 2006.
3) LOSS OF WORKING MARINA’S (Commercial fishing industry) AND MOBILE HOMES /RV PARKS (Our only truly “Affordable Housing” in the Keys).

4) PROPOSED CHANGE IN HEIGHT AND DENSITY.

We commend you on your appointment of Tom Pelham as Secretary of the Department of Community affairs. Mr. Pelham brings a wealth of experience to this position. We look forward to working with him and you under our Designation of Area of Critical State Concern.

Do not hesitate to contact our organization for any assistance we can provide on these or other matters of concern in the Florida Keys.

Sincerely,

Richard W. Lancaster,
President
